Faculty of Law: Training on Digital Addiction and Human Rights

A training session for the Faculty of Law teaching staff took place in Trebinje on 26 and 27 August 2026, focusing on ‘Digital Addiction and Human Rights under the European Convention on Human Rights.’ The training brought together the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar, Prof. Dr Amra Jasarbegovic, Prof. Dr Anita Durakovic, Prof. Dr Denis Pajic, Prof. Dr Ramajana Demirovic, and Vice Dean for Scientific Research, Assist. Prof. Dr Suncica Hajdarovic.

The Council of Europe organized the training as part of the project ‘Support to Consistent National Implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and Facilitation of the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina – Phase II.’

Through lectures and interactive activities, participants explored the concept of digital addiction and the relevance of the Convention in the digital environment. They also examined the application of Article 8 of the ECHR and the right to privacy in the digital age, including algorithmic profiling, data manipulation, and dark patterns. The training also addressed the positive obligations of states to protect individuals, particularly children and vulnerable groups, in the digital space.

The programme concluded with a case study on the responsibility of digital platforms for addictive design.
