SUNRISE ALLIANCE: Students from Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar won first place at the international startup competition in Cyprus

Team Atlas, consisting of students from the Džemal Bijedić University of Mostar, won first place at the BIP EUC Startup Academy & Competition - a five-day international competition and summer school held at the European University in Cyprus, organized by Sunrise Alliance.

A total of 24 teams from nine universities from Italy, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Portugal, France, Cyprus, and Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the competition.

Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar presented two startup ideas at the competition.

The Atlas team, consisting of Dino Burić (Faculty of Information Technology), Adelisa Marić (Faculty of Economics) and Amina Šarić (University Study Programme of Business Informatics), won first place with the startup idea of ​​an AI virtual assistant that, via a camera, in real time and with full privacy protection, monitors the posture of employees and warns them about incorrect sitting, distance from the screen, poor lighting, etc.

The solution is compliant with GDPR regulations and intended for companies from the IT sector, banking, and customer service centers. The team presented an already developed, functional application at the competition, which particularly impressed the jury.

The Mindly team, consisting of Lejla Nezirović (Faculty of Information Technology), Amar Obradović (Faculty of Economics), and Nejra Zaklan (Study of Business Informatics), presented a health-tech platform that facilitates everyday activities for people with dementia and their families and combines a smart hardware device and a mobile application for caregivers so that they can monitor the patient's condition 24/7. The Mindly team achieved a great result; it was among the first third of the best-ranked teams.

"The atmosphere in Cyprus was something special. People from all over Europe, with different experiences and ideas. Everyone in the same room learns from each other. I am grateful for this opportunity, which we used to connect with the participants, and managed to show the true potential of our startup idea. Winning was a confirmation that we can put the idea from Mostar side by side with teams from much larger European universities," said student Dino Burić, leader of the winning team. Both teams attended the summer school. They were accompanied by senior assistant Sara Kljajić, MA, who was also a lecturer during the summer school. Apart from senior Assistant Kljajic, Prof. Aida Brkan Vejzović, Prof. Denis Mušić, and senior assistant Merima Ćupina also helped with preparing the two University teams.
