Representatives of the Agro-Mediterranean Faculty attended the kick-off conference of the strategic EU project ‘Smart AgriTech Connect – SATECON’ in Kotor.
The organizers launched the project within the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro to enhance agricultural competitiveness in border areas by developing and implementing smart agricultural technologies.
The project team develops pilot activities in different locations, encourages cooperation among producers, promotes knowledge exchange, and introduces innovations into everyday agricultural practices. The partners expect the project results to modernize agriculture, attract young producers, and stimulate rural development across the region.
At the opening conference, project coordinator Prof. Dr. Stjepan Bogdan from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, Nevena Marilovic from the Directorate for European Integration of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Biljana Papovic, State Secretary at the Ministry of European Affairs of Montenegro, and Marko Opancar from the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds of the Republic of Croatia addressed the audience.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, leads the project and coordinates the work of eight partners from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
Through the SATECON project, partners develop strategies and tools that improve the adoption of smart agricultural technologies, including drones, sensors, automation, data analytics, and robotic systems. The team focuses project activities on six key agricultural sectors: viticulture, fruit growing, olive cultivation, livestock farming, greenhouse production, and mariculture.
By joining this project, the Agro-Mediterranean Faculty demonstrates its commitment to advancing innovation in agriculture, strengthening scientific and professional cooperation, and promoting sustainable development in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
