Celebration of 47 years of foundation of Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar University continued with the solemn session of the Senate at the Centre for Culture in Mostar. Apart from the university management, deans, heads of university studies, the ceremony was attended by the rectors of public universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, numerous dignitaries, officials, and guests. The Senate session included the presentation a scroll of honour for the efforts and exceptional contribution to the development of the University and the recognition of the University reputation in the country and abroad as well as of the presentation of the Rector's awards to the best students.
Prof. dr. Alena Huseinbegović, the Rector of the Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar emphasized that these events are an opportunity to summarize the results of the previous academic year and to announce future plans.
"In the current year, the University had a 12 percent increase in the number of enrolled students compared to the previous year. There are also six new study programs University will offer for the next academic year, as well as various forms of lifelong learning with the intention of connecting the labor market and education to increase the higher employment rate of our students and their adequate response to the challenges of modern times," she the Rector.
The Rector also reminded the audience about the University’s investment in the infrastructure, primarily, the newly opened, modernly equipped Student Dormitory Antalya, which includes a student clinic with primary health care. Then, a sports hall at the Faculty of Education, the plan to build sports fields within the University campus, as well as activities on the reconstruction of the so-called common building used by several faculties, which represents a kind of symbol of the University from the war and post-war development of the Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar.
Prof. dr. Nermina Hadžigrahić, the Rector of the University of Tuzla and the chairperson of the Rector's Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said that through five decades of its existence, the Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar Mostar has developed into a respectable higher education institution.
"We in the Rector's Conference are also proud of every success of the University, because it is the success of each of us," said prof. dr. Hadžigrahić.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton prof. dr. Adnan Velagić emphasized the importance of this day both for the University and for the wider community.
"The university represents the backbone of future development in our canton. The Ministry will continue with the support that will go in several directions. Our support will also imply finances to raise the standards of professors and students," said Minister Velagić.
Prof. dr. Sead Pašić, former Rector of the University received the honorary title of professor emeritus.
The University also awarded teachers who obtained the title of full professor in the previous academic year. The awardees are: prof. dr. Jasmina Aliman; prof. dr. Svetlana Hadzic; prof. dr. Alma Leto; prof. dr. Zhana Dzhubur; prof. dr. Armin Hadrović; prof. dr. Amra Jašarbegović; prof. dr. Rebecca Kotlo.
Prof. dr. Suad Špago, prof. dr. Dragi Tiro, prof. dr. Denis Mušić, prof. dr. Amra Mahmutagić, prof. dr. Snežana Bilbija, prof. dr. Redžo Čaušević, MSc. iur. Zoran Kazazić; B.Sc. librarian Jasminka Trešnjo were awarded with the scroll of honour for their efforts and exceptional contribution to the development of the University and the recognition of the University’s reputation in the country and abroad.
On behalf of all the awardees, prof. dr. Alma Leto addressed the audience.
The first cycle students who received the Rector's award for the best students are: Amar Stranjak, Benjamin Nazdrajić, Tea Demirović, Lejla Hećo, Azra Čopelj, Osman Pobrić, Nejla Graho, Majla Martinović, Maria-Magdalena Mandić, Berina Šabanović, Adna Jakupović and Lejla Isaković
Admir Topalović and Selma Zulum won the Rector's award for their success in both the first and second cycle of studies.
Rector prof. dr. Alena Huseinbegović congratulated all the winners of the Rector's Award for their hard work and commitment, as well as for their academic results, and wished them good luck and success in their future endeavours.
