As part of the celebration of the 47th anniversary of the University, in the presence of many guests a reconstructed gym "Sport and Health" was opened today at the Faculty of Education.
Apart from the Faculty of Education and Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Government of the Herzegovina Neretva Canton, and the City of Mostar helped with the reconstruction and furnishing of the gym. prof. dr. Ekrem Čolakhodžić emphasized that opening the gym was just one step towards the implementation of the vision of the Faculty of Education. Students will now have much better study conditions. The newly opened facility is designed as a place for gathering students and their extracurricular activities.
"We are happy that we have brought the project to an end, and even happier that we will not stop there but continue to invest in the infrastructure, thus providing students and teaching staff with better working conditions," said the dean, prof. dr. Ekrem Čolakhodžić.
The University is the bearer of social development of the City of Mostar and Herzegovina, and the campus was and still is a gathering place for young people, a place for sports competitions and the acquisition of new knowledge and skills.
Vice-Rector for International and Inter-University Cooperation prof. dr. Rijad Novaković emphasized that the University Development Strategy foresees the improvement of infrastructure and the development of capacity and potential. The gym is also part of the strategy.
"With the reconstruction of the gym, we improved the teaching process and created a place where students can spend their free time and organize sports events. I must take this opportunity to thank the donors and friends who supported the project," said prof. dr. Rijad Novaković.
The next project is the construction of sports fields and supporting facilities in the central part of the University campus. The city of Mostar provided initial funds of 600,000 BAM.
"I look forward to successful cooperation with the authorities at all levels, who recognize the importance of investing in sports infrastructure that will benefit athletes and sports teams of the City " added prof. dr. Rijad Novaković.
