47. years of the Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar

The programme of marking the 47 years of Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar started with the event dedicated to both Džemal Bijedić and Midhad Hujdur Hujka and their role in not only the history of Mostar but Bosnia and Herzegovina. The audience had an opportunity to see the movie ‘Hero of the Liberation War - Midhad Hujdur Hujka’ by Sead Kreševljaković.

"Apart from remembering the historical role of Džemal Bijedić, our University was named after, today we are also remembering Midhad Hujdur Hujka, the holder of the Golden Lily and the Order of the Liberation War, a man who was a symbol of honesty, courage and defence not only of the premises of the university campus, but also of Mostar and the homeland," said the Rector of the University, prof. dr. Alena Huseinbegović.

Before the screening of the movie, the Rector informed that the University had initiated the procedure to change the University official address into University, Sports and Recreational Center Midhad Hujdur Hujka.

After the screening, the delegations laid flowers on the memorial bust of Džemal Bijedić and the memorial plaque of Midhad Hujdur Hujka and his comrades.

Although they worked in different time frames and contexts, Džemal Bijedić and Midhad Hujdur Hujka left an permanent mark in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Džemal Bijedić was a visionary who advocated for the affirmation of Bosnia and Herzegovina within Yugoslavia and the promotion of Yugoslavia in the context of international relations. On the other hand, Hujka - a symbol of resistance, strength, and the fight for freedom, represented one of the key figures for the defence of Mostar and the homeland.

The week-long programme will continue on Tuesday with the opening of the gym ‘Sports and Health’ and tournament in table tennis at the Faculty of Education. The Solemn session of the University Senate will be held on Wednesday at the Centre for Culture Mostar. The University library is organizing the promotion of the University publications on Thursday. The promotion of all scientific and research projects and international projects is also scheduled for Thursday while the ceremonial promotion of Doctor of Science is scheduled for Friday.

The programme of the Days of the University will end on Saturday with the ceremonial promotion and awarding of diplomas.
