Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar and TPO Foundation are organizing a series of lectures, workshops, and discussions from November 26 to December 10, 2024, as part of the UNIGEM project and the campaign 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. These activities aim to educate teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students, on gender equality and preventing gender-based violence.
Prof. Dr. Merima Jasarevic delivered a lecture titled Family Dynamics/Domestic Violence in Urban and Rural Cultural Contexts on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Faculty of Education of Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar. She focused on enhancing students' knowledge and raising their awareness about the importance of gender equality.
"Studies on family life in Bosnia and Herzegovina reveal urban-rural antagonisms through sociological and anthropological analysis. These antagonisms appear as differences in family dynamics. Everyday life experiences may vary, but similar issues related to violence persist. 47.2% of women experience some form of violence within their families from the age of 15, regardless of their residence. However, fewer women in rural households report violence," emphasized Prof. Dr. Merima Jašarević during the lecture.
The Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar and the Transcultural Psychosocial Educational Foundation (TPO) are implementing the project University and Gender Mainstreaming (UNIGEM) under a signed Memorandum of Cooperation. The government of the United Kingdom supports them in combating gender-based violence, discrimination, and sexual harassment while ensuring integrity and quality in higher education.
Through the UNIGEM project, the Transcultural Psychosocial Educational Foundation (TPO) collaborates with 19 universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro, including Džemal Bijedić University of Mostar. Together, they promote gender equality and create a safe academic environment for teachers, students, and staff. Through this project, universities in the region commit strategically to integrating gender perspectives into academic communities.
