Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar marked its 44th anniversary with the formal session held at the Centre for Culture in Mostar. The session, traditionally, was held on the same day as the first session of the University Senate 44 years ago.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, this year the ceremony was more modest compared to previous years. Nevertheless, it gathered the academic community and distinguished guests, including the member of Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, H.E. Sefik Dzaferovic.

In his address, he thanked all the previous managements of the University, saying that so far, they have managed to keep the University working, as well as to keep role and importance in Bosnia and Herzegovina society.
- Dzemal Bijedic University has confirmed its true commitment to the ideals of science and education, but also its commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the most important tasks in the coming period is to ensure access to quality education, given that lagging developed countries is directly related to lagging in science and education. For four decades, despite numerous challenges, this university has managed to keep working and to maintain its role in Bosnia and Herzegovina scientific and educational community, which was especially difficult during the last aggression - said Dzaferovic.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Croatian National Canton, Rasid Hadzovic, began his speech with words about Dzemal Bijedic - a great man still remembered by the very mention of the University.
- This university has overcome many obstacles and temptations. Today, its strides are great. University participates in scientific and educational programmes in Europe and the world. The past 44 years are proof that qualitative human resources are of utmost importance. In the past, Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar has nurtured many quality staff and important people in Europe and the world. It has always been the centre of development of Herzegovina and a place that provided world-renown intellectuals. Our task today is to expand and develop that wealth - said Hadzovic.

Prof. dr. Elvir Zlomusica, the Rector, said that Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar was the fourth established University in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the 18th in the former Yugoslavia. To this day, around 25,000 students have graduated from this University.

The scroll of honours of the University were presented to the employees and associates who have contributed to the development and affirmation of the University.

The next event on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the University is planned for Friday, February 12th in the Amphitheatre of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, starting at 10:00 The best students will be awarded the Award of the Rector.

The Award Ceremony will be attended by H.E. Zeljko Komsic, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as other guests.
