IRO UNMO Blog: Lejla Škaljić

My name is Lejla Škaljić, and I am a senior teaching assistant and PhD candidate at the Faculty of Economics, Džemal Bijedić University of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This summer, I had the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ Summer School at the University of Almería (Universidad de Almería), Spain. It was a rewarding experience that helped me expand my knowledge, meet students from different countries, and gain new academic and cultural perspectives.

The Summer School brought together students from diverse countries and academic backgrounds, creating a dynamic international environment that encouraged learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange. This diversity provided an excellent opportunity to share experiences, exchange perspectives, and establish valuable international connections.

During the programme, I attended the courses Project Management for the NGO Sector and Digital Culture and Literacy: Who Owns the Digital Sphere? Through the first course, I gained practical knowledge of project planning, implementation, stakeholder engagement, and project management in the non-governmental sector. The course also provided valuable insights into developing sustainable projects and understanding the role of NGOs in addressing contemporary social challenges.

The course Digital Culture and Literacy: Who Owns the Digital Sphere? focused on the influence of digital technologies on society, communication, and culture. We explored topics such as digital citizenship, media literacy, online privacy, digital rights, and the growing impact of digital platforms on everyday life. Interactive discussions and collaborative activities with international participants encouraged critical reflection on the digital world.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the Summer School was the opportunity to study and collaborate with students from different countries. Working in a multicultural environment enhanced my intercultural competence, communication skills.

Beyond the academic programme, living in Almería allowed me to experience Spanish culture, traditions, and lifestyle. The combination of academic learning, cultural immersion, and international networking made this Erasmus+ Summer School a truly memorable experience.

I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this programme and for the support provided through Erasmus+. This experience strengthened my academic knowledge, broadened my international outlook, and inspired me to continue engaging in international academic and research activities.
