Every year, on February 21, the world celebrates International Mother Language Day. This special day reminds us that languages are an important part of culture and identity. It also encourages people to protect and promote their native languages.
Why is this day important?
For many years, some languages have disappeared because people stopped using them. Many people believe that speaking only one global language is enough, but this is not true! Every language carries history, traditions, and unique ways of thinking. Today, many organizations work to save and promote different languages, but we still need to support them.
How can we support mother languages?
Encourage language learning – Parents and teachers can inspire children to learn and use their mother language. They can read books, tell stories, and sing songs in their native language.
Give equal importance to all languages – Schools and universities should respect and promote different languages. They should offer programs and activities that support multilingual education.
Celebrate linguistic diversity – We should talk about the beauty of different languages and their importance. Many people know global languages, but do they know about small and endangered languages? We need to share their stories!
